I started riding when I was six years old. Like many little girls, it started when I begged my parents for riding lessons. They eventually gave in by sending me to a summer camp with horses. From there, I graduated to my own pony, and then my own horse. I rode hunters at first, and then moved on to Three Day Eventing when I entered high school. When marriage, a job, and kids made eventing an impossibility, I transitioned to dressage. I have trained with various amazing people, including Michelle Gibson, Michael Poulin and currently Nancy Hinz. But, like many people, I could not afford the horse I wanted. So I decided to breed one.
I purchased my first Dutch Warmblood mare in California in 1990, while on vacation. Over the last 30 years, my desire to breed a horse for myself has turned into a desire to breed horses for others. I wanted to breed horses that didn’t just perform in the show ring, but that had the temperament to be fun outside the ring as well. I think everyone who loves horses deserves a horse that they can’t wait to go to the barn to see. An equine partner who is their best friend, but who also has the talent and temperament to take them wherever their dreams may lead. So my horses want to love their human partner and look forward to seeing them when they enter the barn. They can stand in hobbles on a trail ride to Big Bend Ranch State Park, jump around a preliminary level event course, or perform at the FEI levels in a dressage show. So whether your dreams are to compete at the US Dressage Finals in Kentucky or are just a little bit closer to home, you can realize those dreams with an equine friend from Lightening Rock Ranch.
